I am a 28 year old male who completed BSc in Medical Sciences at the University of Limpopo Turf loop Campus majoring in Advanced Medical Biochemistry in record time. I further obtained my honours degree in advanced medical microbiology with distinction in record time, at the university of Limpopo Turfloop campus in the year 2010, researching on sexually transmitted infections (Chlamydia trachomatis, Trichomonas vaginalis, Bacterial vaginalis and Human Papiloma Virus). In 2011 I joined the university of Limpopo MEDUNSA campus for an MSC (Med) Medical Virology degree focussing on HIV drug resistance until I resigned in 2014. In 2012 I was occupied by the DST-NRF internship programme, based at the Centre for Genetic Conservation Research at Pretoria National Zoological Gardens (NZG). I then joined the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) at Onderstepoor Veterinary institute (OVI) based at Trans-boundary Animal Disease Programme (TADP) in January 2013. My current research focus is to immunologically profile African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) proteins for vaccine development for an MSC degree under the University of Pretoria. I then joined the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) under Professor Caroline Tiemessen on the HIV LEOPARD O (observational study), LEOPARD CT (Clinical Trial) and Functional Cure study that was undertaken at the cell biology laboratory. I would like to apply for the above mentioned position.
I am trained to work in a Haematology, Chemical Pathology, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, diagnostics, Biosafety level (BSL) 3 and virology Laboratories. Some of my laboratory skills includes: Full blood counts and interpretation; SOP’s; bacterial cell Culturing; Preparation of media and chemical solutions; cell staining techniques; DNA and RNA extraction from blood, PBMC’s, bone, hair and muscles; General molecular techniques, serology, bio-informatics; Real time, Conventional, SNIPS, micro-satellite PCR; Primer Design; DNA and RNA isolation; Cloning; Protein expression; ELISpot, Cytokine ELIZA, proliferation assay, intracellular cytokine staining; CTL assay; PBMC isolation; Sexing, Parentage and hybridisation tests and Protein purification. I also have experience with the ILab300, Genetic analysis, spectrophotometer and microscopy.
I am registered with HPCSA as a student medical scientist (HPCSA REGISTRATION NO. MS S 0000744), I am computer literate (Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint, publisher, novel GroupWise, access, typing skills version 2007).
I previously worked as a computer laboratory assistant (University of Limpopo Turfloop campus, 2010), a student laboratory assistant in a medical microbiology and anatomy academic laboratories (University of Limpopo Turfloop campus, 2010) and as a computer literacy teacher/instructor (University of Limpopo MEDUNSA information technology, 2011), as well as a computer laboratory supervisor (University of Limpopo MEDUNSA information technology, 2012).
I am qualified to work in Research Laboratories, BSL 3 laboratories and Diagnostic Laboratories as a medical Technologist, Medical Scientist, Medical microbiologist, Researcher and Medical Virologist.
I am a simple, determined hard working, energetic, and well collected person with a good sense of humour, who can work under pressure and willing to relocate.
